Overview
The Black Girl Health Collective is a non-profit organization with the aim to create a community for black women. Their mission is for them to be more informed about their own bodies, health, and wellness.
Brittany came to me with the task of reorganizing their existing website to ensure a smoother user journey. The main goal was to increase user retention and bring more traffic to the website.

Problem
Prior to the redesign, BGHC faced a number of challenges on their website that hindered the effective messaging of the organization.
The website was visually inconsistent, difficult to navigate, and consisted of numerous pages that were too similar - giving it a repetitive feel.
There was also a lack of visual hierarchy and big passages of text, which made it difficult for users to register the main focal points at a quick glance.
The website was also not very mobile-friendly, which was an issue because a lot of BGHC promo was done through social media platforms such as Instagram.

Design
Process
After the initial meeting sessions, I started by doing basic research on similar organizations, followed by a thorough audit of BGHC's existing website.
I then mapped out the user journey to find pages that overlapped, to combine them and shorten the journey map as much as possible (pictured on the right).
With the new and improved user journey mapped out, I created low-fidelity wireframes and sent them over for approval and revisions. Upon approval, I implemented the new UX onto the website that was hosted on Squarespace.

Solution
& Results
Through careful planning, research, and communicating frequently with Brittany from BGHC, I was able to design and deliver a website that addressed these issues and provided more seamless user experience that was also visually consistent.
The new website clearly communicates BGHC's goal to provide support and a sense of community to black women throughout the US.
With this new website, there has been a significant increase in user retention, from users spending 94 seconds per page to 143 seconds on average. The bounce rate has also decreased from 62% to 51%.
