Overview

Patterns is a deep tech company with the goal of using technology to improve teamwork in high stake, high pressure environments.

Its main product is an AI model that uses speech recognition and analysis to provide teams with feedback and predictions for optimal communication.

I joined the Patterns team as a Product Designer, where I worked on designing them a desktop app, website, and brand kit.

Problem

Despite having a running app, the design was purely functional and had no brand elements or visual consistency. The data was displayed in a basic manner with no visual hierarchy whatsoever.

This caused the website to look flat and dull, also causing issues on identifying focal points in the large amounts of data.

My main challenge was to create and eye-catching dashboard, taking into consideration the amount of data available, and the extended screentime by analysing data for long periods of time.

Design
Process

While designing the brand kit for Patterns, I made sure to keep the colors dark and more muted, to take account the long hours spent on the app. I also made sure to select a Sans Serif font to ensure it would be easy to read.

I started the project off with low-fidelity designs, focusing on mapping out key points of data that needed to be showcased based on user research that included surveys, interviews. and A/B testing. This was so that I could start user testing and gathering feedback.

After finalizing the low-fidelity designs with the CEO and developer, I moved on to high-fidelity designs which included an interactive prototype (link below).

I then handed off the final design to our developer for further implementation.

Solution
& Results

While designing the brand kit for Patterns, I made sure to keep the colors dark and more muted, to take account the long hours spent on the app.

The app is currently in testing and further iterations will be made depending on the user feedback that we receive. The AI is also currently being trained for increasing accuracy.
